Exchange 2010, OWA will not login

Problem

After installing exchange 2010 and setting up OWA ( Outlook Web Access ), when you go to the owa login page and enter your username and password , it comes straight back as if the password was invalid. This is an authentication issue.

Resolution

This is a problem with the exchange 2010 default install. One of the prerequisites is that when you install IIS ( internet information services ) is that you enable Basic Authentication…the install fails to warn you of this.

To do this simply ..

1) Right click on computer and select “manage”

2) Select roles and the scroll down to IIS.

3) Select add services.

4) Put a tick in “Basic Authentication”.

Restart IIS then you will be able to authenticate with OWA.

Thanks for the help. I love Microsofts little undocumented requirements. Saved me tons of head banging….
