Problem

Sometimes on a network it is necessary to stop users from running certain applications on there pc`s. Applications that may need blocking are things like messenger services or games. We can block any type of application from running on a windows domain with a simple group policy. The part we enable is called a hash rule , we then enable it and deploy it to users on the network who we want to stop using certian applications

Resolution

Open The Group policy tool either the via console one or the Group Policy management console

Browse to:
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings >Security Settings >Software Restriction Policies

Right click on the Software Restriction Policies folder and select Create New Policies or New Software Restriction Policies. The software restriction tab will expand to show the following folders

Highlight the Additional Rules Folder

Right click on the additional Rules and select New Hash Rule.

Browse to the app you would like to block…

Simply now apply the GPO to the users you require to block the app for.
