Setup iPad Or iPhone to Connect to Microsoft Exchange 2007,2010 and 2013

If you have an iPad or an iPhone then you can connect it to Microsoft Exchange quite easily, it works by effectively connecting activesync in exchange 2010,2013 or 2007.  Follow the step by step guide below on how to connect the iPad or iPhone to Microsoft Exchange 2007, 2010 and Exchange 2013. This guide was wrote with IOS5 and IOS6 and IOS7 in mind.

The first thing we need to do is select the settings icon on your apple device

Once done we now need to select the option for Mail, Contacts Calenders option so we can select the Microsoft exchange app for the iPad or iPhone.

Configure iPad and iPhone for microsoft exchange

Configure iPad and iPhone for microsoft exchange

Then, under the accounts screen we need to select Exchange.

Configure iPad and iPhone for microsoft exchange

Next under Exchange , we then need to select Accounts.

Now we need to actually enter the details of the account that the iPhone or iPad will use to connect to exchange.

So, first enter your email address.

Then the A record of your mail server, mine is seen below, if you do not have and A record configured with your ISP you can enter the outside IP address that routes through to port 25. On your exchange server you can go to whatismyip.com to find it

Then enter your INTERNAL domain name NOT your mail domain.

Then finally your username and password.

Once done select done. If you now go to the  Mail application it will attempt to connect to your mail server, please not do not try this while internal on your network wireless, use 3g or and external wireless source.

Now I have seen this take a food 15 minutes to connect the first time. Once connected it will sync you exchange email account locally with the devices specified settings.

Consider reading iPad and iPhone syncing all exchange contacts if you want to manage what contacts sync

    Hi Allen
That is all fine. However as soon as the iPhone is in the office and connected to the wifi there all email stops. Do you have a way round this?

      Hi Les,

the reason this happens is because you are hitting your EXTERNAL OWA address but when you are in the office and on the internal IP scheme you are still trying to hit your external address even though you are attached to the internal network already through the firewall. The only way around this would be would be to either change the address to the internal address or add an additional account for internal. This is by design.
      Thanks

      Allen
