Exchange Uninstall Error

After migrating from Exchange 2010 to office 365, when trying to gracefully remove the final Exchange 2010 server I came across the following error. Although this was Exchange 2010, you may also see this error on Exchange 2013 also.

Stopping Services
FailedError:
The following error was generated when “$error.Clear();
& $RoleBinPath\ServiceControl.ps1 DisableServices $RoleRoles.Replace(‘Role’,”).Split(‘,’);
& $RoleBinPath\ServiceControl.ps1 Stop $RoleRoles.Replace(‘Role’,”).Split(‘,’)
” was run: “Service ‘Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology (MSExchangeADTopology)’ cannot be configured due to the following error: The specified service has been marked for deletion”.

Service ‘Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology (MSExchangeADTopology)’ cannot be configured due to the following error: The specified service has been marked for deletion

The specified service has been marked for deletion

Every time you try and run the uninstall / removal of roles you see will see the error above. Thankfully the fix is simple and how many times have we hear techies say this. “Reboot”, the server..the fix is in the warning, it cannot removed the services as its been marked for deletion in the registry.

Simply reboot and run the removal of the role again
