Check what server holds FSMO roles – quickly..

Problem

The FSMO  ( Flexible single master operation ) roles are the 5 major roles/services which manage you domain schema, infrastructure and various other responsibilities. Sometimes it is required that these roles are moved or spread amongst various servers. Rather than go into active directory users and computers and sites and services you can check what holds the roles via command line. If you want to check what DC holds what FSMO roles quickly without clicking all over the place and registering DLL`s for schema management then follow the simple command below.

 

Resolution

PRE REQ – make sure you have the server system tools installed on your DC.

Enter the command below at command line

netdom query /domain:"domainname" FSMO
